Answers on MAISHI 316 stainless steel security screen mesh: grades, specifications, AS 5041 test reports, MOQ, lead time and samples.
Why 316 stainless steel instead of 304 for security screens?
316 stainless steel contains about 2-3% molybdenum, which gives it better resistance to pitting from salt and chlorides than 304. That is why 316 marine grade is the usual choice for security screens in coastal and humid areas. MAISHI makes its security screen mesh in 316 marine grade stainless steel.
What specifications are available?
The most common specification is 10 mesh x 0.9 mm. Other specifications range from 8 mesh x 1.2 mm (high tensile, 2.0 mm opening) to 18 mesh x 0.32 mm. Standard sheet widths are 750, 900, 1000, 1200 and 1500 mm with lengths of 2000, 2400, 3000 and 3500 mm, and other sizes can be cut to order. Powder coating uses Akzo Nobel powder.
Has the mesh been tested to Australian standards?
Yes. Azuma Design, a NATA accredited laboratory in Sydney (No. 15147), tested the mesh to the AS 5041 knife shear method (report AZT0310.18, passed) and ran a 1000-hour neutral salt spray test to AS 2331.3.1 with no corrosion (report AZT0311.18). Azuma Testing Ltd in Hong Kong (NATA accreditation 20513) also tested 11 mesh x 0.8 mm mesh to AS 5041 Section 8, result pass (report AZHK200901). AS 5039 is the security screen standard that refers to the AS 5041 test methods; compliance of a finished screen also depends on the frame and installation.
